These cookies are essential to run the service, and they cannot be switched off without breaking core features such as signing in. They do not track you across other sites and are not used for advertising.

• Session cookie (nm_session): set when you sign in, this keeps you logged in as you move between pages so you do not have to re-enter your credentials on every request. It is removed when you sign out or when the session expires.
• Security & anti-CSRF: a token-based cookie that protects your account from cross-site request forgery, ensuring that actions such as editing a profile or submitting a report genuinely came from you and not from a malicious page.
• Rate-limiting & abuse prevention: short-lived values that help us detect and slow down automated abuse — scraping, bulk lookups, credential-stuffing and similar — so the directory and risk scores stay reliable for everyone.

Because these cookies are what make authenticated, secure use possible, we rely on our legitimate interest in providing and securing the service rather than on consent. If your browser blocks them, sign-in and other account features will not work.

Preference cookies remember choices you make so the service behaves the way you expect on your next visit. The most common example is remembering your country or region selection so lookups and formatting default to the right place. These cookies are optional: they improve convenience but are not required for the service to function, and you can clear them at any time without losing access to your account.

We only ever store the choice itself — for instance, a country code — not a profile of your behaviour. We do not use preference data for advertising, and we do not share it with third parties.

We keep measurement to a minimum. Where we look at how the site is used, we rely only on privacy-preserving, aggregated analytics — counts and trends that help us understand which pages are useful and where things break, without identifying you personally. You are in control. Every major browser lets you view, block or delete cookies through its settings — usually under a heading such as “Privacy”, “Cookies and site data” or “Security”. You can also browse in a private or incognito window, which clears cookies when you close it.

• Block or delete optional preference and analytics cookies whenever you like — the service will keep working.
• If you block the strictly necessary cookies described above, sign-in and account features may stop working, because there is no way to keep you securely logged in without them.
• Clearing cookies signs you out and resets remembered preferences such as your country selection.
